i never realized how much time i wasted…or how shitty i felt about myself… on facebook until i deleted it.
I believe that people are made in our lives to come and go.. friends appear, they help you through things or they spend good times with you, and then things change and you move on. They leave. or you leave. and facebook just reunites you with all of them. You haven’t seen someone in years, so you type them in on facebook and look at their pictures. But you don’t really talk. You just look at them and wish you were still in each other’s lives. Then you linger around on everybody’s page that USED to care about you, and now all you are is some nostalgic, dwelling-in-the-past, unproductive, curious george that’s not getting your homework, cleaning, or other hobbies you used to do, done. All because you’re looking at someone’s pictures, who, when you look at the scheme of things, doesn’t matter. You are just wasting your time.
Point number 2. I think fb is becoming ridiculous. i babysat two different families throughout the past couple of weeks. There were a two little girls i babysat that were about nine years old… both from different families, both of which had facebooks. Let me remind you, these girls were nine years old. They said that bullying was a huge issue at school, especially on the internet on FB. I couldnt imagine being that age and seeing horrible things written and tagged about me in statuses or having mean or ugly pictures taken of me at school and then have them be posted everywhere. I got picked on middle school before facebook was ever around. I would have hated everyone much more if i had to log into their mean words at home as well. it broke my heart hearing that crap. Besides, why do these little kids need a facebook anyways? go outside and play! that’s what i did when i was little, shit!
Can you name 3 ways facebook has improved your life? I can’t. I can obviously name ways it has unimproved it though. I could name maybe two reasons why it was nice, but no improvements. there were two people I met up with i hadn’t seen in a while. Did you know that facebook is a big cause of divorce right now? Everyone has one, so they reunite with their old high school pals… and exes… and conversation comes up.. “you were so cool! why did we break up again?” and then all of a sudden you are cheating on your spouse. Facebook has benefited one person with billions of dollars, but has done most of the rest of us a disservice. I don’t even miss mine.
I read this quote once, i believe it was by thomas jefferson… but it is that “Every generation needs a new revolution”. What is our revolution going to be? Facebook? The internet? Technology? “We don’t need smarter people, we need more less selfish people”. What if all of a sudden tons of teenagers/people deleted their facebooks? I’m talking as many people that use tumblr? That would be cool. I bet it would hit the news and i bet their would be noticeable changes in something. I can’t tell you how productive I have been. I have ran errands I have been wanting to run and I have been doing a lot more arts and crafts and teaching myself guitar. I am reuniting with hobbies more often and it feels good. Think about it, really… how much homework have you not gotten done or waited until last minute to do, and then did a shitty job on it because you were wasting time away on facebook? Or, how many times have you been wanting to clean your room but you just don’t feel like it so you stay on facebook to procrastinate you from cleaning? get off facebook, get off your butt and go do something! I’m only 21, but at this rate, i don’t feel like having facebook and mark zuckerberg run my life schedule.
Oh, and facebook is WAY too informative. I’d like to have some privacy in my life. I love knowing that no one knows what im up to anymore, or that i’ve lost 25 pounds, or that im dating a super awesome handsome man, or that my hair looks different, or all of the stupid shit i used to want everyone to know about me. I understand the networking of facebook, i really do. But this is just getting out of control. We have little kids that should be experiencing childhood, that are sitting inside on facebook. As well as adults.. who use facebook to.. cheat on their spouses, fight constantly over comments or statuses that have been posted. Not to mention that people lose their jobs over pictures or comments sometimes. It’s like one big joke, and i feel like mark zuckerberg is just looking at everyone, running facebook and laughing at all of us. I never get phone calls on my birthday or holidays anymore. I’d get 70 fb comments though. over half of which were from people that I never spoke to or even really care about. Besides, on my birthday, i dont want to have to find a computer, log into facebook, and look for birthday greetings. I want my friends to pick up their phones and call me and say “hey, happy birthday.”
fuck facebook. it’s one big popularity contest. One day high school reunions will just no longer be, all because everyone already has a facebook. i think that everyone’s new year’s resolution should be to deactivate your facebook. Don’t worry, you can’t even delete it fully. you can only deactivate it. but really. I dare you. At least just try it, for like a month. See how things change. I feel like i have finally let go of all the people in my past that were supposed to not be in my life a long time ago. I feel good and refreshed and am excited to see who will be coming up next in my life and what new friends i’ll make. if you hate it then by all means get back on. but facebook isn’t going anywhere, you possibly could.
